Philanthropy Roundtable had the pleasure of recently chatting with Betsy about her contribution to the reform of education. DeVos states that she feels that the movement has made great progress and the number of students enrolled in educational choice programs saw a significant increase. The compassionate duo began their journey roughly 30 years ago when their children were of school age. They frequented Potters House Christian School and met parents and families from several different backgrounds. all with one common goal. They noticed how passionate these parents were about placing their child in the safest and student focused learning centers, and for some, the financial sacrifice was unbearable.
Betsy and Dick decided to reach out and help these families by assisting with the cost of tuition. Initially, they helped small families privately, but quickly began to make contributions to a significant amount of the student body. The couple has since been committed to helping parents and low income families get the education they deserve, regardless of their ability to pay.
